Hazardous Hope

A crisp breeze blew through the night, a full moon illuminating the world below. Flowers swayed gently, creating a scene of peaceful bliss. The soothing effects had no effect on a passerby, yet he still found himself drawn to the scene. From the corner of his eye he had noticed a peculiar shape and was able to recognize the foreign object. The man, known as Kei Okazaki, let out a soft chuckle as he approached the circular device, commenting on how he thought he’d never see it again.

The runaway roomba had been sheltered by red anemone flowers, a fate most fitting, Kei mused. While not too keen on the symbolism of flowers, there was an exception to be made for this particular plant, a symbol of Adonis. He had studied up on its significance and understood why this flower had been chosen to represent the organization. It stood for a multitude of meanings, hope and death among them. This terrorist group had cleverly chosen such a flower to match their views – their idea of creating a new world where despair did not exist, killing those who created it.

The red anemone was also a symbol was abandonment, and he found himself questioning if those behind Adonis had experienced that within their lives. Kei laid down in the flowerbed, grabbing the roomba and dusting it off as he recalled how he himself had experienced such emotions. After his partner died in his place two years prior, he had hoped to avoid such a fate by having a death filled with purpose. He searched for quite some before he finally found someone worth dying for – Hoshino Ichika. She was full of the most admirable qualities and had the right morals and conviction, he knew he could fulfill his purpose with her.

He held the roomba close to his chest as he looked up at the moon, more memories coming to mind. The incident when he discovered her collar, the incident when she discovered his intentions. Both instances created a rift between the two, neither one able to understand the other. Although he had to admit, his concern with her being a member of Adonis was an easier matter to solve, once he put aside his concerns and entrusted full faith in her.

Faith - another symbol of the flower. How fitting that it was faith guided both their happy endings. It had taken him much more convincing, with his hazardous hope for a meaningful death. Being fixated on the notion for two years, he found her desire for him to live to be a trivial manner, surely she would see the sense in his plan.

Or so he had thought.

Instead, he found himself understanding her point of view. It had taken some time to convince him but he gradually opened up to the idea, putting faith in his ability to keep her safe and happy alongside him. Looking back, he found it hard to believe that he almost with through with his idea. Being in a relation with Ichika had given his life new meaning, full of positive purpose.

Kei continued to stare up at the moon, softly chuckling as he realized how the symbol of Adonis had all the symbolisms of his own life. He carefully removed one of the flowers from the ground before standing up, holding the red anemone in one hand and his reunited roomba in the other. With a grin he strolled off, plans for sharing his discoveries with his love filling him with joy.  He had endured a lot and while he had shared the similarities with the symbol of Adonis, he was glad that death was no longer one of them.
